Red Madhubani Print Tussar Ghicha Silk Saree – Bhagalpuri Handloom
Matsya
A clear red tussar body, and then the borders run the whole length in fine black-and-beige line work, opening out at the pallu into a full panel of Mithila painting.
About the work
The borders and pallu both carry a Madhubani print in the kachni style: fine line-and-hatch drawing, no colour fill, everything built from strokes. Paired fish, peacocks, a seated figure panel, and rows of lotus and leaf run the full length of the border and open out across the pallu. Kachni is the most disciplined of the Mithila styles — it earns its detail with line alone, which is why it reads so well against a plain red ground.
About the fabric
Tussar Ghicha silk, handwoven in Bhagalpur. Ghicha is the yarn drawn from the outer layers of the cocoon and spun by hand, which is what gives the cloth its slubby, uneven texture and its soft matte lustre rather than a flat shine. It has more body than plain tussar, holds a pleat well, and takes a deep red particularly cleanly.

A note on handloom
Each piece is woven individually, so slight irregularities in the slub and small variations in how the print falls across the weave are characteristic of the craft rather than defects. Colour may vary a little from your screen.
