Neelambari

A deep peacock blue, handwoven on a pit loom in Bhagalpur. The silver zari border runs the length of the saree and opens out at the pallu into bands of gold and copper — restrained enough for the office, dressy enough for a wedding evening.

About the weave

This is Tussar Ghicha silk. Ghicha is the yarn drawn from the outer layers of the cocoon, spun by hand which is what gives the fabric its slubby, uneven texture and its soft matte lustre rather than a flat machine shine. It drapes with a little more body than plain tussar and holds a pleat beautifully.

A note on handloom

Slight irregularities in the slub, and small variations in the weave, are characteristic of hand-spun ghicha yarn. They are the mark of a handwoven piece, not a defect. Colour may vary a little from your screen.
